Minister supports DCD MARINE's efforts in creating an Oil & Gas hub

Alan Winde on tour of DCD Marine

Western Cape Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Alan Winde, visited DCD MARINE's port facilities in Cape Town on Tuesday 4th September 2012. The Minister, who officially launched A-Berth end of 2011, indicated that there is potential in the Western Cape's oil and gas industry. In the past year, the sector created 5800 jobs and attracted investment worth more than R1.2 billion.

Winde visited industry players such as Belmet Marine and Damen Shipyards and rounded off his visit at DCD MARINE's premises. He also took the opportunity to go on-board the semi-submersible rig, Scarabeo 3, currently undergoing repairs and modifications at A-Berth in the Port of Cape Town.

A study commissioned by the South African Oil & Gas Alliance (SAOGA) indicated that the West African offshore oil and gas market is due to expand strongly between 2009 and 2013 and investment is expected to accumulate to more than $150 billion in the maintenance, modification and operations market alone.
